Generational Craft

A Legacy Built Across Three Generations

Tiger Pool and Patio has been a family-run business for three generations.

That means the people you see in this photo: the parents, kids, and grandkids have all grown up around job sites, backyard projects, and conversations about how to build quality pools.

Over the years, we’ve seen what happens when projects are rushed, corners are cut, or communication falls apart. And we’ve also seen what happens when things are done carefully, plans are explained clearly, questions get answered, and when the work is built to last.

That’s the side we choose to be on.

We don’t pretend to be perfect, but we do take responsibility. If something needs attention, we show up. If a decision affects your home, we talk through it step by step.

At the end of the day, our goal is simple: Treat people with respect, build something we’re proud of, and leave families with a backyard they will enjoy for generations.

Meet the People Leading Tiger Pool & Patio

Jennifer & Mike Shreckengost

Mike moved to Missouri in 2010 and went straight to work alongside Jennifer’s dad, Richard, learning the pool business from the ground up. He’s always been happiest in a backyard, talking with homeowners, figuring out what they want, and building something that actually fits their life.

Jennifer came from a career in higher education and brought structure, communication, and a more organized approach to the business. When they took over in 2020, they combined those strengths, Mike in the field, Jennifer guiding the process and design, while staying anchored in the values the company started with.

Along the way, Jennifer has also become deeply involved in improving the pool industry in Kansas City, serving with the local PHTA and helping push for higher standards, better education, and better experiences for homeowners.

Together, they focus on building quality projects, elevating design, and making the process as stress-free as possible.

Our Legacy

Tiger Pool & Patio started in 1981 with Jennifer’s dad, Richard Stanhope. From day one, Richard focused less on making the most profit and more on doing right by homeowners. That mindset is what shaped Tiger Pool & Patio.

Outdoor construction doesn’t always go perfectly, and Richard knew that. When something needed attention, he didn’t argue or disappear. He came back, fixed it, and made things right. That’s how he created a successful business that’s lasted over four decades.

When Mike joined him in 2010, they were able to take on more projects while keeping that same approach. And when Richard retired in 2020 and passed the company to Jennifer and Mike, he trusted that the values he built the business on would stay in place.

These days, he’s enjoying retirement and plenty of golf, but the way he ran this company is still what guides every decision we make.

Our Philosophy

Building a pool is a big decision, and it touches a lot more than your backyard. It affects your time, your budget, and your home. We try to approach every project with that in mind. Our goal is to communicate clearly, set realistic expectations, and slow down when it matters so things get done the right way. We want homeowners to always know what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what comes next. We care about quality, but we also care about the experience. It should feel organized, honest, and steady, not chaotic or confusing. At the end of the day, we want families to feel good not only about the pool they end up with, but about the process it took to get there.
